DFATD Cadieux-Léger Fellowship Program in Canada 2015-2016

The Foreign Policy Research Division of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) Canada announces the 2015-2016 Cadieux-Léger Fellowship. The Cadieux-Léger Fellowship, now in its 23rd year, provides direct experience in a policy research environment focused on the diverse challenges facing Canadian foreign policy. The Cadieux-Léger Fellow is integrated in the Foreign Policy Research Division at DFATD as a full-fledged analyst.  


The Fellow's work includes some research related to priority topics, writing short papers, contributing to the operational policy requirements, including by networking with internal and external experts and contributing to policy working groups

Eligibility
The ideal candidate will:
  • be available for a minimum of nine months between September 2015 and August 2016;
  • be working towards a PhD on a topic of relevance to Canada's foreign policy priorities;
  • be recognized as having full-time student status by the academic institution in which they are presently enrolled and maintain this status during the whole fellowship period. Part-time students working on their thesis or recognized by the academic institution in which they are presently enrolled as having a disability will also be considered;
  •   conform to the eligibility criteria of the Research Affiliate Program.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to obtain a Secret-level security clearance in order to finalize the selection procedure.
* While non-Canadians may apply, preference is given to Canadian citizens. A Canadian citizen is a person who was born in Canada or who has obtained Canadian citizenship.

Coverage/Scholarship Benefits
The Cadieux-Léger Fellowship lasts up to twelve months and the Fellow will receive a total bursary not greater than $48,000.

Application Method
Applying for the Cadieux-Léger Fellowship is done through the Research Affiliate Program (RAP). Only candidates that have completed this step of the process will be considered.
Interested candidates must provide the following information:
  • a curriculum vitae;
  • a complete transcript;
  • a one page research proposal on a significant foreign policy issue and its implications for Canada;a one page paper demonstrating how the candidate can support the division’s current research themes, listed above;
  • proof of enrolment for 2015-16 in a recognized academic institution;
  • a sample paper or publication; and
  • the names of three references.
