Fully-Funded PhD Studentship at University of Sussex in UK, 2015
Applications are invited for a fully-funded 3-year PhD studentship to develop new methods for tackling the computational complexity
involved in dealing with very large dynamic networks. A particular domain of
application for this studentship will be the monitoring and predicting of
failures in large-scale dynamic networks (e.g., hundreds of thousands of
nodes).
The work will involve the design and implementation of optimised
algorithms for the analysis of dynamic networks and the monitoring and
prediction of important events. Drawing on real networks data, the research
will seek to take into account the various timescales involved, i.e., events taking
place on the network and changes in the network. It is expected that
traditional network analysis techniques and probabilistic models on network
will need to be used in tandem in order to achieve the desired results.
Applications are invited from individuals with a very
strong Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or
Physics, and an interest in theoretical computer science (algorithms,
complexity, optimisation), network theory and time series analysis. Preference
will be given to applicants who can demonstrate expertise in algorithmic
optimisation. Strong programming skills in at least one of
C/C++/Java/Matlab/Python are essential
