PhD Research Fellowship in Gene Regulation and Epigenetics at University of Oslo in Norway, 2015
University of
Oslo, Department of Bioscience invites application for the position of PhD Research fellowship in the field of gene regulation and epigenetics.
Further Description of the position
The position is associated with the
research group of professor Odd Stokke Gabrielsen and project leader Ragnhild
Eskeland. The candidate will work on a project funded by the Research Council
of Norway. The goal of the project is to elucidate novel mechanisms of
SUMO-regulation of gene activation. Many nuclear regulators are found modified
with small SUMO-proteins having major impacts on their activities. Our model
system is the oncogenic transcription factor c-Myb, for which both SUMOylation
and SUMO-binding have been found to strongly influence function. c-Myb is a key
regulator of blood cell formation. A deregulation of c-Myb expression is
associated with oncogenicity. A broad range of experimental strategies will be
used, including genetic, cellular, biochemical and genome-wide approaches such
as interaction assays, chromatin immunoprecipitation and sequencing (ChIP-Seq),
gene knockdown, genome-engineering using CRISPR-Cas9 systems, as well as
various functional assays.
