2012 DMIS Middle Years Ambassador Scholarship, USA
Marcia Pasquer and Grace Kimak. Each year this Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated commitment to diversity, education and the promotion of global awareness.
The Award will be presented at the 2012 Annual Gala on Sat., April 28, at the historic Tivoli Turnhalle in downtown Denver. Ms. Boigon served as the first Executive Director of the Denver Mayor’s Office for Education and Children, where she developed Denver Head Start, created a school-to-career program in every Denver public middle school, and provided literacy grants to local community coalitions for neighborhood schools. Ms. Boigon was elected to the Denver City Council in May 2003. She chaired the Government Affairs and Finance committees and was a member of the Health, Safety, Education, and Services committee. She was a founding board member of the Denver Preschool Program and a member of the Colorado State Board of Human Services, Metro Crisis Triage Initiative, State Rail Plan Steering Committee and an honorary board member of Denver International School. After serving eight years on Denver City Council, Ms. Boigon ran for Mayor of Denver in 2011-12.
