University Hall St Andrews Graduates’ Association (UHStAGA) Scholarship, UK 2012
A postgraduate scholarship for a woman graduate is being offered by the University Hall St Andrews Graduate Association (UHStAGA) for two semesters of study in the academic session 2012-2013.
The University of St Andrews, Scotland’s oldest University, founded in 1411, enjoys a high reputation for excellence in learning. In 1992 it celebrated the centenary of the admission of women as graduating students, and in 1996 the centenary of University Hall, the oldest purpose-built Hall of Residence for women students in Scotland. The Association for graduates of University Hall (UHStAGA) was founded in 1898.
In offering this scholarship, UHStAGA wishes to continue its tradition of furthering friendly relations and international relations among students. To that end it is open to postgraduates both from home and from overseas. It is also open to current postgraduates who are experiencing financial difficulty in completing their research at St Andrews.
Eligibility
The successful candidate will be expected to reside in University Hall during term time and to take an interest in the life of the Hall. If from overseas, it is hoped that she will put the knowledge and experience gained in St Andrews to full use upon her return home and thus contribute to the development of her own country and to the role and status of women there.
Candidates must be graduates of a high academic standard with an excellent knowledge of English, sufficient to allow them to benefit from full-time study at St Andrews. It is expected that the successful candidate will complete a graduate diploma or degree in St Andrews.
Award Details
The scholarship will cover the cost of accommodation and meals at University Hall for thirty-seven weeks of the session. Please note that this does not cover the vacation period over Christmas and New Year, and that beyond the University Hall contract (end of May 2013) the candidate will need to make other arrangements for accommodation. During these periods the scholarship may provide some help towards accommodation costs.
The scholarship does not cover tuition fees, nor will it make any allowance for meals during the vacations, for travel, health insurance or any other incidental expenses.
