Research Position in Indoor Environment at Technical University of Denmark, Denmark
Applications are invited for a position as Researcher at the Department of Civil Engineering. The position is available from January 2012.
The Department of Civil Engineering comprises a staff of about 150 persons and offers an inspiring environment for education and research. The department is divided into six sections that represent focus areas of key importance for construction processes, buildings and structures.
The position is anchored in the Section for Indoor Environment. The section's interdisciplinary research programme aims at developing design criteria and innovative technical solutions for the creation of healthy, comfortable and productive indoor environments that satisfy human requirements at low energy consumption. The section conducts both laboratory studies as well as field experiments. The educational activities of the Section for Indoor Environment cover the area broadly and include, among other topics, building physics, indoor climate, heating and ventilation system design. Innovation and practical application of the research topic is highly favoured. The Department of Civil Engineering comprises a staff of about 150 persons and offers an inspiring environment for education and research. The department is divided into six sections that represent focus areas of key importance for construction processes, buildings and structures.
The research connected with the position is multidisciplinary and will be anchored at the International Centre for Indoor Environment and Energy. It focuses on providing healthy, comfortable and productive indoor environment in buildings with as low energy consumption as possible. Emphasis will be on the connection between occupants’ interactions with building controls, indoor environment and energy consumption in buildings. The research will mostly be related to field studies, questionnaire surveys, statistical modelling and simulations with a focus on behaviour of occupants in buildings. The research will involve collaboration with many other fields, including architects, sociologists, industrial designers, psychologists and industry. Knowledge addressing several of the mentioned topics will be required.
The Centre has about 15 researchers (including PhD’s) who constitute an international world top research group in the area of indoor environment, with special emphasis on the thermal indoor environment and indoor air quality. As a group we carry out both basic and applied research in laboratories and in the field. We enjoy close contact with students, with industry and visiting PhD’s, Post Docs and professors from the top Universities around the world. More than 10 countries are normally presented in the group. We strive to contribute well to DTU’s ambition to be among the leading 10 technical universities in the world.
Job description
We seek a candidate who will be engaged in research on the influence of the occupants’ behaviour on the indoor environment and energy consumption. Technical topics to be dealt with may comprise:
- Field studies of occupants interactions with building controls and indoor environment
- Questionnaire surveys covering occupants’ preferences with regard to building controls and their use.
- Building simulations of indoor environment and energy use
- Human subjects experiments in our laboratories
Qualifications
It is preferred that the candidate has profound knowledge of building simulation and experience with field investigations and questionnaire surveys.
- Applicants should have a master’s degree in engineering or similar and academic qualifications equivalent to a PhD degree
- Didactic/pedagogic training
In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to
- scientific production and research potential at international level
- Innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas
- the ability to communicate at all levels such as the provision of scientific advice to public sector authorities
