PhD Studentships for International Students at University of Sussex in UK, 2015
PhD Studentships in
Sensitivity and uncertainty of dynamic and static deformation of gas-turbine
bladed discs with friction joints. This project is aimed at development of numerical methods
for the effective analysis of sensitivity of bladed discs to variation of some
design parameters for specified characteristics.
Moreover, the sensitivity-based methods allowing fast assessment of effects of variability and uncertainty of material properties and geometry of blades on the static deformation and vibration amplitudes of bladed discs will be developed.

Sensitivity and uncertainty of dynamic
and static deformation of gas-turbine bladed discs with friction joints.
Scholarship open for
EU, UK and International Students
Scholarship Level
PhD Studentship
Eligibility
Candidates with strong capacity in numerical modelling,
finite element analysis, mathematics and programming are particularly welcome
to apply.
Two PhD studentships are available for suitable
candidates with a strong interest in structural dynamics and numerical
analysis. Studentships are for three years and cover a stipend at standard
research council rates (£14,057 per annum for 2015-16), tuition fees (for one
UK/EU student and one Overseas student) and a research support grant.
Depending on the needs of the industrial project one of
the Studentships may be extended up to six months in order to undertake further
testing of the modelling on the company premises in Europe. Availability of all
funding is subject to final agreement.
Scholarship Duration
3 years
Coverage/Scholarship Benefits
£14,057 tax free stipend, plus UK/EU
level fee waiver for three years.
