PhD Studentship in Engineering: System Integration of Concentrator Photovoltaics and Thermoelectric Devices, 2016
Cardiff University isinvites
applications for PhD Studentship in engineering: System
Integration of Concentrator Photovoltaics and Thermoelectric Devices.
The PhD project will investigate the
integration of two semiconductor technologies for solar energy harvesting,
photovoltaics (PV) and thermoelectrics (TE). Around 50% of the solar spectrum
is comprised of waste heat which is not utilisable by crystalline Silicon PV
materials. TE modules can utilise a proportion of the waste heat to generate
power and increase solar energy harvesting, or it can be used to pump heat to
reduce the PV cell temperature and increase integrated device efficiency. This
Ser Cymru NRN funded project links into a large EPSRC SUPERGEN Solar challenge
grant with consortium members in Glasgow, Exeter & Manchester. There is
also industrial links to a World leading semiconductor manufacturer.
