Cardiff University is inviting
applications for PhD studentship
in Engineering: Development of wear modelling capability for self-lubricating
plain bearings.
This project is in collaboration with
SKF Aerospace, who specialise in the design and manufacture of high-technology
self-lubricated plain bearings for aerospace applications. The bearings
are extensively used in both fixed wing and helicopter applications, primarily
in the movement of flight control surfaces. SKF plain bearings are also
used in a range of industrial applications, including rail,
military, racing and power generation applications.

Eligibility
Residency: This studentship is open to students of any nationality.
Students classified as international for fee purposes have to self-fund the
difference between home and international fees.
Academic criteria: Applicants for a studentship must have
obtained, or be about to obtain, a 2:1 degree or higher in a relevant subject,
such as Computer Science & Informatics, Mechanical Engineering or Physics.

This studentship consists of full UK/EU tuition fees, as
well as a Doctoral Stipend matching UK Research Council National Minimum
(£14,057 p.a. for 2015/16, updated each year).
One studentship is very generously funded by SKF
Aerospace UK Ltd and the School of Engineering.
