2012 Australian Leadership Awards (ALA), Australia



Description 
Griffith University in Australia, which is serving as Sub-Regional Secretariat for  Australia and New Zealand for the International Partnership for Expanding Waste Management Services of Local Authorities (IPLA), is organizing a training program on
-“Leadership Training for Moving Towards Resource Efficient and Zero Waste Societies in Developing Countries”. The training  is targeted towards leaders of waste management in local authorities and national governments registered with IPLA, for AusAid's consideration, but those which are not the official members of IPLA will also be considered. 


The training programme is expected to comprise formal lectures, seminars, site visits to local authorities to learn about best practice and exposure to policy makers in key government institutions to gain knowledge and experience on policy making. It is expected to cover municipal solid  waste management, hazardous waste management and cleaner production and eco-efficiency. The duration of the program is expected to be 4 weeks.
The Australian Government AusAID program on Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) Fellowships is expected to provide necessary funding for this training programme.  A brief concept note of the training course and a list of eligible countries are attached for your kind reference.

Eligibility

ALA Fellowships target senior officials and mid-career professionals, who in the short to medium term, will be in a position to advance key regional policy objectives and increase institutional capacity of developing countries.
To be eligible, all Fellows must:
  • Not have Australian permanent residence status or be applying for permanent residency;
  • Be a citizen of, and residing in, an ALA Fellowships eligible country; and
  • Have been working in their country of citizenship and in areas relevant to their proposed training in Australia preceding the date of the proposed commencement of their Fellowship.
