Sylvia Naish Fellowships and Scholarships at University of London, UK 2012
Sylvia Naish Fellowships
Endowed by a generous bequest from the estate of Sylvia Naish, two Fellowships and one Scholarship are offered for 2012-2013 for research into any area of German language and literature at the Institute and its Germanic Studies Library. The awards are designed to assist scholars in the early stages of their careers, to provide a contribution to temporary living expenses
in London, or enable those in employment to take unpaid leave to further their studies.
1. The Sylvia Naish Research Fellowship
The Sylvia Naish Research Fellowship provides funding of up to £2,000, and is open to post-doctoral applicants domiciled in one of the German-speaking countries who wish to spend a minimum of one month and up to two months at the Institute. Applicants must have a strong publications record and should be at the beginning of their academic career. Those holding a lectureship or equivalent position at a university or institution of higher education will normally only be considered if they are taking unpaid leave for the duration of the fellowship. The fellowship may not be held concurrently with another fellowship or award.

What Visiting Fellows Do
Fellows should write a short report on the progress their research has made at the conclusion of their visit for internal reporting and possible publicity. Fellows are required to contribute to the scholarly activity of the Institute and the wider School of Advanced Study and, where their stay in London permits, are expected to contribute a presentation to one of the Institute's seminar series. Fellows are invited to place a recent, normally unpublished, piece of work in our e-repository, SAS-Space. Publications resulting from research carried out during the tenure of the fellowship must carry due acknowledgment of the Institute, and where appropriate, a copy should be presented to the Germanic Studies Library.
