The Snowdon Award Scheme for Disability Students, 2012 UK

Below you can read our aims and also the formal conditions that are sent to all applicants.
If you have questions we suggest you first look at the FAQs. If these do not fully answer your queries, please Contact us.

Aims
To provide funds that help cover the additional costs of being disabled and a student in further and higher education, or a person in training. The Award Scheme will not therefore usually meet expenses that have to be borne by all students, such as tuition fees or standard living and accommodation costs.

Within the stated limits, the Award Scheme accepts applications for financial assistance towards the following costs, where they cannot be met in full from statutory sources:
Human help such as sign language interpreters or people to take notes
Computer equipment
Adapted or additional accommodation
Travel costs
Mobility equipment
Other costs which relate solely to disability
The Award Scheme will assist with tuition fees only where applicants are not eligible for statutory funding, and they provide justification that the need for assistance with tuition fees is related to their disability.

Conditions
The awards are made on the recommendation of a carefully chosen Selection panel. Conditions of application are as follows:
Candidates will have a physical or sensory disability.
Students of all nationalities may apply but must be studying at a college or university in the UK.
A grant will be for a period of one or two years and will not usually exceed the value of £2,000 per year. In exceptional cases, £2,500 may be awarded.

In the case of two-year grants, the continuation of the grant for the second year will be subject to a satisfactory academic or other appropriate report.

Candidates will declare all relevant financial and medical information, which will be kept confidential to the panel and administrators of the grants.

The awarding selection panel usually meets in July and October, with applicants receiving results soon after each meeting. Acceptance of an award must normally be made within two weeks of a funding offer.
Conditional awards may be made dependent on the results of examinations and other grant applications.
Applications for retrospective funding will not be considered.

The decision of the selection panel will be final. No further correspondence will be entered into about the panel’s decision.

Repayment of the grant may be claimed if it has not been used for the purpose specified, or if grants/allowances are subsequently received from statutory bodies for the specified purpose.
