Merit Scholarship at University of Richmond, USA 2012
The Richmond Scholars program awards full-tuition, merit-based academic scholarships under four designations: Oldham Scholars, Science Scholars, Artist Scholars and Boatwright Scholars.
Students who apply for admission to the University of Richmond by December 1 are automatically considered for the Richmond Scholars program. The Office of Admission reads all applications and recommends that some students advance to the semi-finalist round for further consideration. In this round of the application process, students are asked to submit additional materials. At this point, applicants self-select either one to two designations that they feel best fit their academic profile. When invitations to interview on campus are issued, students will interview with specific selection committees, based on their designation of choice.
All candidates may be considered in up to two designations. Some designations, such as Artist Scholars and Science Scholars, are quite specific based on a student's academic interests, while others, such as the Oldham and Boatwright designations, are more broad. Being named a Richmond Scholar, under any of the four designations, is an extreme honor. It is possible, though rare, for one student to ultimately be awarded two designations.
While all Richmond Scholars receive full-tuition scholarships, designations are used to determine additional educational advantages. Those advantages may vary by year but include benefits such as stipends for summer educational experiences, priority housing, priority registration, and invitations to special designation-specific events. Students will learn more about those benefits as they advance through the interview process.
