2012 Harold James Boyden Traveling Scholarships at King’s College London, UK



A scholarship funded under the terms of the generous legacy to King's from the late Harold Boyden. One award annually. This is a travelling scholarship, which is to be used to study the workings of the Council of Europe, failing this to undertake a study of the European Community and Parliament.

Specified use
It is anticipated that the award of approximately £400 shall be the whole or part of the cost of travel and accommodation in Europe for the sole purpose of the proposed study.
Details of such costs should form part of the application.

Application procedure
The award is made each June. The Department Administrator should receive applications by the end of May. 

Applicants should submit a Curriculum Vitae (CV) and a statement, not to exceed 500 words, of their intended study and to illustrate therein how such study will further the understanding of European institutions in accordance with the wishes of the late Harold James Boyden. 

Applicants are required also to submit with their application the name of at least one member of staff in the History department from whom a reference may be obtained. 

On completion of the study, and before the 1st October, the successful applicant shall report to the Head of Department, in writing and in not less than 2,000 words, as to the conclusions drawn from that study and the benefit derive therefrom. It is not necessary that such study should be part of a degree programme.
