2012/13 BBSRC Master’s Studentship for UK/EU Applicants at University of Manchester, UK

BBSRC Masters Studentships 2012/13

The MRes TERM holds funding from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) in recognition of the academic excellence and depth of research training provided by the course in an area of bioscience priority.

These highly competitive BBSRC studentships are available to UK/EU* applicants who have been awarded or expect to be awarded a 1st or a 2i (or equivalent) Bachelors degree in a relevant subject. The studentships provide full support for tuition fees in addition to a tax-free minimum stipend of £13, 590.

Applicants for the MRes seeking BBSRC support should submit a BBSRC studentships application (Word, 76 KB) alongside their online application for the MRes programme. Applicants are recommended to initially submit a formal application for the MRes online (online application) and then submit the application for BBSRC funding separately. BBSRC studentship applications will not be considered until a formal application for the MRes has been received.

BBSRC funding is prioritised towards candidates wishing to gain in vivo training during the MRes. There is currently a UK skills shortage of trained scientists proficient in in vivo and integrative mammalian biology approaches, and the aim of the studentships is to alleviate this. Applicants for BBSRC funding should therefore be aware that their interest in in vivo training will be discussed at interview.

Any questions relating to in vivo training should be directed to Dr Sarah Herrick at sarah.herrick@manchester.ac.uk.
Any questions relating to the BBSRC studentships in general should be directed to Joy Stewart at joy.stewart@manchester.ac.uk.

The deadline for studentship applications is Friday 30 March 2012, but early application is encouraged as candidates will be assessed and interviewed in advance of this on an ongoing basis.
