Visiting Scholar/Research Position for the Applicants of Gulf at CIRS Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, Qatar

The Center for International and Regional Studies (CIRS) at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar invites applications for the 2012-2013 Visiting Scholar/Researcher position. The position is open to mid-career and senior scholars in all disciplines working on any area of the Middle East, with priority given to those working on the Gulf.

This is a nonresidential fellowship. The Visiting Scholar/Researchers travel to CIRS in Doha three times during the academic year for one to two weeks each time. (Dates are negotiable.) The recipients participate in the academic and intellectual life of the CIRS and Georgetown University’s campus in Qatar. This includes a presentation at the CIRS Monthly Dialogue Series, authorship of a CIRS Occasional Paper, and, participation in meetings and discussions with Georgetown faculty and students. The fellows will be given access to the University’s library, office space and equipment, and administrative support during these visits. CIRS will cover all expenses related to the trips, including business class airfare to and from Doha, accommodation, meals, hotel, and transportation in Doha.
Review of applications begin January 5, 2012 and continues until the position is filled.
Interested scholars should submit a cover letter, a current curriculum vitae, names and contact information for five references, and a statement describing the proposed publication and related research to be pursued under the fellowship.

The Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar, which is located in Education City in Doha, offers a four-year undergraduate curriculum leading to the Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service (BSFS) degree identical to that offered through the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service on the main campus of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Each year, Georgetown University’s program in Qatar admits a class of approximately 50 students, many from the Middle East and South Asia, who take courses on and will graduate from the Doha campus. University employees join a community of scholars in Education City who teach in the other branch campuses of Carnegie-Mellon University, Northwestern University, Weill Cornell Medical College, Texas A&M University, and Virginia Commonwealth University.
