William Rea Fellowship in Television, University of British Columbia, Canada
One or more fellowships totaling $2,100 have been endowed by William Rea, Jr., founder of CKNW, in honour of his father, a pioneer Edmonton educator. The minimum value of each award is $500.
The fellowship is open to a University of British Columbia graduate student of either sex, who shows the greatest aptitude in terms of scholarship and extracurricular activity for a career in television through drama, music, writing, photography, engineering, or business. The scholarship may be renewed for one or more years in appropriate circumstances.

Students wishing to be considered must submit the following:
- statement outlining program objectives
- statement regarding financial circumstances
- transcripts for all previous university-level studies (including studies undertaken but not completed) up to April 30, 2011. Original UBC transcripts are not required, as Graduate Awards staff will provide UBC academic records on the applicant's behalf. Transcripts for studies at other universities can be original (in sealed envelopes from university) or certified true copies (in sealed envelopes from UBC graduate program).
- Applicants must also request three or more instructors familiar with their work to supply confidential statements indicating their merits and an estimate of their ability to pursue work in one of the areas of the field of study in which the candidate desires to work. Fax copies and e-mail letters will be accepted only if they are sent by the instructor directly.

- Collect and then submit all their application materials together in one package. Envelopes containing transcripts and reference letters must not be opened by the applicant, but must be submitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies in their original, sealed envelopes from the issuing institution (original transcripts), and referee (reference letters). Students submitting certified copies of their transcripts, should ask their graduate program to certify and seal the envelopes containing the copies.
- When requesting transcripts and reference letters, ask that the address clearly indicate that the materials are for the “William Rea Fellowship competition.”
- Submit their application materials in advance of the deadline if possible.
- Confirm with the Faculty of Graduate Studies that all required application materials have been received before the deadline.
