PhD Studentship for Tooling Process Chains for Injection Moulding at DTU, Denmark

DTU Mechanical Engineering has been granted a 3-year innovation consortium together with IPU, LEGO, GN Resound, Multi-Wing, DKI Plast, Kaleido and Uddeholm. The name of the consortium is “INNOMOLD – Innovative energy efficient plastic products and injection moulding processes” and its overall purpose is to improve the energy efficiency and the quality of injection moulded parts with special emphasis on parts with micro or nano structures in the surface.
The main idea of the consortium is to use carefully controlled induction heating of the tool surfaces during injection moulding in order to achieve this ambitious goal.

We now have an opening for a Ph.D. position in the consortium.

Job description
The project’s main task is to develop one or several advanced tooling process chains to realize injection moulding tools with micro and/or nano structures in combination with induction heating. The project will comprise numerical and experimental activities related to tool realization, tool wear, replication quality and cycle times. The project will be carried out in close collaboration with the other partners in the project.

Qualifications
  • M.Sc. in mechanical engineering
  • Experience with injection moulding of micro and/or nanostructures as well as tooling processes
  • Good knowledge of numerical modelling of injection moulding as well as design of experiments
  • Ability to work independently, to plan and carry out complicated tasks, and to be a part of a large, dynamical group
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken
We offer
We offer an exciting and challenging job in an international environment. Good possibilities for professional and personal growth. A family friendly organisation with flexible working hours.

Terms of employment
The terms of employment will be in accordance with those of the scientific staff at DTU. Salary will depend on qualifications and experience. The period of employment is 3 years.
