Eligibility:
1. University of Canterbury Doctoral Scholarships are tenable for study towards the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Canterbury. The scholarships provide for a living allowance and tuition fees, each to a value determined by the Council.
2. The scholarships are awarded, on application, by the Council on the recommendation of the Academic Board. Application for the scholarships must be made to the Scholarships Office, University of Canterbury, on the approved form no later than 5.00 pm on 15 May or 5.00 pm on 15 October
3. a) To be eligible for a scholarship, an applicant must have met the academic requirements for enrolment in the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Canterbury on 10 December (for those applying by 15 October), or 15 June (for those applying by 15 May) in the year of application.
b) Students already enrolled for the PhD at the University may apply for a scholarship, although this will normally be considered only for students in their first or second year of study.
c) Candidates may only apply twice for a UC Doctoral Scholarship.
4. a) Every offer of a scholarship will lapse if it is not accepted in writing within one calendar month of the offer being made.
b) Every scholar not already enrolled in doctoral study must be enrolled in a doctoral programme by 1 June (for those applying by 15 October) in the year following application, or 1 December (for those applying by 15 May) in the year of application. A scholar unable to enrol by this deadline must seek permission from the Academic Board to take up the
scholarship at a later date, without which permission the award will be terminated.
5. Every scholar must comply with the regulations for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Canterbury.
