Seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated PhD student to contribute to research in Paediatric Intensive Care Telemedicine.

The School of Medicine is a leading provider of medical education and research in Queensland, with the country's largest graduate entry, integrated, case-based/PBL four year MBBS Programs and a wealth of research programs. The School of Medicine is a diverse enterprise operating over multiple sites, with Queensland Health and private health service providers as major partners. Geographically, the School extends throughout Queensland and overseas with major sites in Brisbane and a number of rural and remote area facilities throughout the rest of the state. New Clinical Schools are being developed from the north of the Sunshine Coast, through central Brisbane and west to Ipswich.


The role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated PhD student to work within a project team of clinicians and academic researchers. The student will investigate the potential benefits of telemedicine in the care of critically ill children. This is an important but under-researched field and the student will have the opportunity to make an important contribution to knowledge both in telemedicine evaluation methodology and in the application of telemedicine in paediatric critical care.

The person
You should have an honours degree or a master's degree in a relevant field. The COH particularly encourages applicants with backgrounds in medicine, nursing, health sciences or public health. Unless you have prior relevant qualifications or experience, it is expected that you will enrol concurrently (with costs covered by the university) in selected UQ postgraduate coursework modules (Introduction to Biostatistics, Introduction to Epidemiology). While the scholarship is Brisbane based, occasional short trips to collaborating hospitals in regional Queensland will be required during the project.

Remuneration
The stipend will be at the rate of $25,000 (tax-free) for the first year. Students must be Australian residents and must be willing to obtain an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) at UQ for the subsequent years of their postgraduate study.
