The Roslin Institute: Research Fellow
A postdoctoral research fellow is required to join the Faulkner group at The Roslin Institute. The project will involve characterisation of retrotransposition in the somatic cells of the human body, including assays of retrotransposition rate in embryonic stem cells, neural precursor cells and hepatocarcinomas. You will possess a PhD in Molecular Biology or closely related discipline and be prepared to pursue a research project with a large degree of autonomy and responsibility. You will also have advanced laboratory skills gained through extensive laboratory experience.

Person Specification
Essential:
- PhD in molecular biology or closely related discipline.
- An interest in pursuing a research project with a large degree of autonomy and responsibility.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts effectively both orally and in writing.
- Drive to produce high impact publications.
- Extensive laboratory experience (cell culture, qRT-PCR, cloning)
Desirable:
- Experience in stem cell manipulation.
- Experience in the use of microarrays and/or next generation sequencing.
Dimensions
The research group is part of the Division of Genetics and Genomics at the Roslin Institute. Active collaborations are in place with a variety of international research groups and in particular the RIKEN Omics Science Center located in Yokohama, Japan. The post holder will be given the opportunity to travel to meet with collaborators in the EU, US and Japan.
Salary
The role is grade UE07 and attracts an annual salary of £29,972 – £35,788 for 35 hours each week (Employers Pension contribution 9.1%, Employers NI contribution 16%). Salary is paid monthly by direct transfer to your Bank or Building Society account, normally on the 28th of the month. Salaries for part-time staff are calculated on the full-time scales, pro-rata to the Standard Working Week.
Exceptional individuals have the opportunity for accelerated incremental progression.
